"I got such a strong feeling of . . . death."
"Death? Are we talking Kyna's death? My death? Who?"
"Just death. The whole cavern seemed to be charged with it. Like the air right before a big electrical storm. You know?"
"We're both seeing mountains, so what does it mean?"
"If I had to guess, I'd say something terrible is going to take place in this cavern on top of that mountain."
"Did you get a feel for when this something is going to take place?"
"A very specific feeling. All Hallows' Eve."
"Why then?"
"I don't know. But it was a very powerful feeling. . . ."
"From you, I consider that better than an eye-witness account."
"Then you must never relax," Paula said. "Never let down your guardeven for a second. He will know and that's when he will make his move."
"And stay away from caves on Halloween?"
Paula grinned. "And stay away from cavesmost especially on Halloween."
"How will he come at us?" Cyrus asked.
"That depends. So far he's kept his distance. Why?I don't have a clue. But I think not much longer. He seems to like using the undead, but I get the feeling that's just to keep you off balance. I think this is personal with him and when the time comes, he'll want to be up close and watch you die."
"You know, Paula, I bet you'd be a scream at a church social."
She did a little curtsy. "Why, thank you. At my church, I am."
"Well, if we live through this, I may just start going to church again myself."

"It's clear again," Conrad said. "What does that mean?"
Bryan stared at the crystal. "Shit!"
